Cypher Sapiens Australia Tour 2009

Witness the evolution of 3 dancers - Australia’s No 1 B-boy Lamaroc & Funkstylists Andre & Enigma - from Homo Sapiens to Cypher Sapiens through the history of planet earth. Combining fresh elements of dance, theatre and multimedia, they travel on a musical journey through 30 years of funk & hip hop.

Cypher Sapiens offer an original performance format, creating an opportunity for audiences to be exposed to different genres of dance within the subtext of creative and cultural collaboration. By entwining history and culture of this contemporary movement and uncovering existing myths and stereotypes, audiences will be able to appreciate the Hip Hop genre as a pathway of self-identity through the medium of dance.

Dont miss out on this amazing event.

Heres a little more information for you….

The Top Ten dancers will spend two weeks under the watchful eye of acclaimed producer/choreographer William Forsythe before kicking off the tour in Cairns on July 2.

Forsythe, who also produced last year’s hit shows, has worked on everything from the Tour of Duty in East Timor with John Farnham and Kylie Minogue, to the closing ceremony of the 2000 Sydney Olympics, videos for Dannii Minogue, Rogue Traders and Ricki Lee, on live events such as Australian Idol and It’s A Long Way To The Top and most recently Cliff Richard’s 50th anniversary concert tour of the UK.

The two hour show will give fans a chance to again experience some of the incredible routines from the series and see at least three new routines.  Once again powerhouse choreographer Kelly Abbey is working on the show-stopping finale.

Series favourites include Penny and Charlie’s ‘Single Ladies’ by Beyonce (choreography Tiana Jourbet), BJ and Talia’s ‘Dead And Gone’ by TI featuring Justin Timberlake (choreography Napoleon and Tabitha), Talia and Loredo’s ‘Love Story’ (choreography Amy Delves) and the Top 4 Talia, Charlie, Amy and Ben doing ‘Womaniser’ by Britney Spears (choreography Matt Lee).

“Last year’s show was such an amazing event which raised the bar so high, we’ve had to work very hard to top it!” Forsythe said. “And I really think we’ve done it.”

Since winning the contest on April 26 in a program watched by almost two million people, 18-year-old Brisbane dancer Talia Fowler has had a whirlwind time being in hot demand for appearances. Beside her $200,000 winner’s cheque, Talia wins the opportunity to perform a solo routine on the finale of the U.S. ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ on August 6. It’s an incredible chance for her to showcase to the entire US dance community!

The SYTYCD experience has impacted all the Top Ten dancers – Talia, Charlie Bartley (Sydney), Amy Campbell (Sydney), Ben Veitch (Gold Coast), B.J. Rorke (Sydney), Gianne Abbott (Brisbane), Katrina Risteska (Sydney), Loredo Malcolm (Melbourne), Penny Higgs (Melbourne) and Timomatic Omaji (Melbourne) – and they can’t wait to begin the national concert tour.

The recent TV WEEK Logie Award for Most Popular Reality Program, defeating ‘Dancing With The Stars’, ‘Biggest Loser’ and ‘The Farmer Wants A Wife’, confirmed the incredible popularity of the program, which has given the entire Australian dance community a huge shot in the arm.

Cairns post - Timeout got the cover story for Stomp the Nard

Here is a little read from the article;
“lot gets said about the youth of today.

However, words such as irresponsible, binge-drinking, violent and unmotivated couldn’t be further from the truth when talking about the people behind Cairns’ biggest and best-known urban dance battle, Stomp The Nard.

What started as an idea for a back alley dance competition in 2005, has evolved into an open-air, widely publicised event with about 3500 punters when it was last staged at the Esplanade Skate Park last year.

Created by Angelo Saliba (aka DJ A.N.G. from Evident Entertainment) and Mark “Montaj” Montajes, it features a wide selection of Cairns’ finest dance troops, including ThreeSixFive, Stylin Techniques and the all new AMAJ All Girl crew.

Along with television shows such as So You Think You Can Dance, it has been majorly responsible for the boom in urban dance styles such as breakdancing, krumpping, clowning and hip-hop in the Far North in recent times.

timeOUT caught up with some of the dancers and people behind the event to find out just what makes Stomp The Nard so special.”

Jaymen from 365 Crew Gets into Top 100!

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

SOME smooth new moves from Far Northern artist Jaymen Drahm (ThereSixFive Dance Crew) have helped him win through to the top 100 in hit TV show So You Think You Can Dance.

Winning through to the top 100 last night, the 20-year-old dancer wowed judges with a dazzling display of lyrical hip-hop.

Judges were particularly taken with his newly choreographed moves.

By making the top 100, Jaymen has matched his performance from last year and is determined to improve.

Already he has set his sights on the top 20.

“I started a dance scholarship with Fresh Element Dance Studio in Brisbane five months ago on a scholarship,” he said.

“The skills I’ve learnt in the last five months have just changed my outlook on dancing.

“The main thing is I still love it and if you love something you just keep doing it.”

Jaymen, who formerly lived in Cairns and Innisfail, said he still received amazing support from friends and family in the Far North.

“I’ve had a lot of people wish me the best and they are really excited for me again but also a bit anxious,” he said.

“But I am determined to improve on last year.”
